Milan is the most important Italian hub as far as transport is concerned: getting to Milan is indeed very easy.Passengers may arrive to Milan by plane to one of three very busy airports:

- Malpensa airport, some 45 km (30 mi) north of Milan, is home to most European and other international flights. Malpensa is comfortably and affordably connected with the city centre by train (the Malpensa Express arriving in 40 minutes at the Cadorna railway station, adjacent to Accademia di Italiano) and by bus (the Malpensa Shuttle coaches arriving in 50 minutes at the Central railway station, 10 minutes by underground from Accademia di Italiano).

- Linate airport, only 7 km (4.5 mi) East of the city centre, hosts most domestic flights, including the shuttle to Rome, and some European flights. Fast and inexpensive connection with the city centre is provided by the bus line 73 or by still affordable taxis. The Malpensa Shuttle coaches also link Linate to Malpensa.

- Orio al Serio (Bergamo) airport, some 55 km (35 mi) East of Milan, is the Milan airport for many low cost airlines.Orio al Serio is affordably connected with Milan by bus (coaches link the airport to the Central railway station in less than 60 minutes).

AI students may use the airport pick-up service, the hassle-free transport to their accommodation.

People arriving by train will end their journey at one of  three major railway stations:
 
- Central railway station (10 minutes by underground from Accademia di Italiano), an imposing building finished in 1931 but conceived at the beginning of the last Century.

- Garibaldi railway station (5 minutes by underground to Accademia di Italiano) a modern building very close to the Central railway station.

- Cadorna railway station, home to the Malpensa Express and to regional trains connecting Milan with Como and the North.

The area of Milan is interested by four major motorways, all connected by three bypasses angenziale Nord, Est and Ovest) enabling people to reach their destination by car without crossing the city centre:

- A1 motorway connecting Milan to the South with Bologna, Florence and Rome.
- A4 motorway connecting Milan to the West with Turin and to the East with Venice.
- A7 motorway connecting Milan to the South with Genoa.
- A8/A9 motorway connecting Milan to the North, Como, the lakes and Switzerland.
